Question by Erick H: Does ebay take the deposit right from your account for auto auctions?
I placed a bid on a motorcycle but recently discovered damage to my home that I need to pay for. There’s a 500 deposit required within 24 hours of winning. The bid ends in six hours. I have my account linked up to paypal. Is this deposit going to be taken automatically or do I have to make it happen? Really I just want to retract the bid but according to ebay it’s too late now.

No, eBay will NOT take money from your account automatically.
Tell the seller you want to cancel your bid as you can no longer afford the item. Explain the situation and hopefully the seller will understand and close the case. If both parts (seller and buyer) mutually agree on closing the case, the seller will get their Final Value fee back and they’re allowed to re-list the item for free. The buyer will not need to make a payment.
If the seller does not want to cancel the transaction, what they will do is they will report you to eBay and eBay will ask you to pay. If you really can’t afford it, then there’s nothing you can do but not paying. Again, eBay will NOT take money from you, but they will give you a strike. After getting certain number of strikes (I believe it’s 3), your account will be suspended.
Since you even asked this question, I assume this has never happened to you. So the worst thing that could happen to you would be you get one strike and that’s it. You will NOT lose your money.
