Do any car auctions have, say, a five-day return so you can have a pro inspect the car for hidden defects?

Question by uglyduh_cling: Do any car auctions have, say, a five-day return so you can have a pro inspect the car for hidden defects?
I want to purchase a car at auction. Obviously, you can’t really bring diagnostic gear and do a 72-point (or whatever) inspection on site. I’d like to find an auction house that allows an interim, good-faith inspection period so I can take it to a qualified mechanic to ensure I’m not getting a lemon.

Any auction bill of sale I have ever seen has stated the sale is final. Auction houses aren’t retailers, like Wal-Mart or JC Penney, they are clearing houses acting as agents for property owners.
Registered bidders usually have pre-auction time to look the vehicles over.

no you’re supposed to inspect it BEFORE you bid, not after

the highest bider IS OBLIGATED to buy it
you’re NOT bidding to be the first one to look at the car; you’re not bidding to get “dibs”–you’re bidding to BUY the car!!

    so, NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

No…you can’t have the advantage of buying from a wholesale auction without the negative of being a qualified appraiser and buyer of vehicles. That is the nature of the business that the public doesn’t understand, when a dealer buys at auction he has no guarantees and the vehicle is what it is. Mosy vehicles are marked redflag as is. prospective qualified buyers, with a dealer’s license are allowed to inspect them prior to the vehicle running through the block. But once purchase, it is theirs even if the engine falls out on the way home.
