WELL looking for a Civic is your first mistake, but if I forgive that I can tell you that an auction is risky. It has a good payoff if you get lucky, but most times the best you can do is pay too much for a good car. Chances are you will end up paying too much for a bad car. Keep in mind they have people planted in the auction that can tell by looking at you if you will keep bidding and run you up and up and up. I do auctions for a living being a dealer and sometimes I even get had even after doing it for years and years (even knowing the people selling to me and knowing the auctioneers)…….and I am one of the top percentage buyers in the Dallas area.

Public auto auctions have more junk that gems in them.
Usually, they sell cars that the seller can’t sell, or cars that have been impounded and forefitted by the owners.
There are tricks to make cars run great to get through the auction line, but once you buy it, it is yours.
I’d recommend hooking up with a good, experienced used car salesman, tell him what you are looking for, what price range, and he will find it for you.

I been selling and buying cars for 30 years in the industry retired and enjoy helping others go to this webpage http://www.usedcartips.org/AUCTIONS.html and then you make up your mind if public auctions are for you.
From there please navigate to the main page and watch a 3 min video about where the half million cars that got flood damage through hurricane Katrina are now.
