They are as good as you are. Meaning if you know nothing about cars don’t bother going. Most auctions are dealer only first of all. You have to check the car you want by listening to it, most will not let you test drive it. If the engine sounds good and every things works, then you bid on it. If it a green light , meaning the car will be listed with any and all defects, if you win then you can test it out, you will usually have 1 hour to pay for it. If something is wrong with it like a bad trans, you can arbitrate it, thery may or may not lower and or let you out of the deal. Yellow light means there is a problem and it’s up to you to fix it after you buy it. Red light means as is. Even dealers buy bad cars once in a while. Public auctions are the worst because dealers will bring cars and have their friends bid the price up. For the most part the deals are good but remember you get what you pay for. Auctions no matter what kind do not warranty the cars or guarantee they will pass inspection. So be careful.

It’s only a good place to buy cars if you know something about cars. If you don’t know what to look for, then don’t bother. Second, if you do go, don’t buy a car from a dealer, it’s just a lemon they are trying to get rid of.
